Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday and a Joyous New Year!

What Does “Merry Christmas” Really Mean?

The phrase “Merry Christmas” has been part of holiday traditions for centuries. One of its earliest well‑known uses in modern culture appeared in 1843 on the first commercially produced Christmas card, which included the message: “A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You.”
Yet long before greeting cards existed, Christmas was widely described as a “merry” occasion, a time filled with joy, community, and celebration.

Today, Christmas Day is recognized as a public holiday in many countries around the world. It is observed as a deeply meaningful religious celebration by many Christians and embraced culturally by millions of others, regardless of faith. The holiday remains an important part of the winter season, bringing people together to enjoy time with family and friends.

Common traditions such as decorating Christmas trees, exchanging gifts, participating in community events, and reflecting on the nativity story continue to symbolize hope, generosity, and togetherness.

From our hospital community to yours, we wish you a warm and joyful holiday season.
