Los Angeles Community Hospital is offering free flu shots for senior citizens on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 3-8 p.m. on the hospital campus at 4081 E. Olympic Blvd. Free onsite parking is available.

Fall is the traditional time to get vaccinated as flu season kicks off as summer ends.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), it has been recognized for many years that people 65 years and older are at greater risk of serious complications from the flu compared with young, healthy adults because human immune defenses become weaker with age. While flu seasons can vary in severity, during most seasons, people 65 years and older bear the greatest burden of severe flu disease. As a result, influenza is often quite serious for people 65 and older.

You can also reduce your risk of a lung infection by getting a flu shot.

If you incorporate an annual flu shot into your routine, you’ll have a better chance of making it through flu season healthy and happy!
